Question
I would like to see your scripture references you offer on the list of prophecy. Bashing the Pope is the work of the Antichrist.

Answer
Hi Glen,

First, it will be helpful in our discussions if you refrain from jumping to conclusions. I did not bash the Catholic Church nor the Pope.

In my reply I clearly said the False Prophet MAY be the sitting Pope at the time the Antichrist comes to power. There have been many bad Popes and many good ones. There is solid textual reasons to suspect this possibility as I will demonstrate.

Rev 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast [ie the Antichrist] rise up out of the sea [of humanity, is the standard interpretation here], having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy....

These seven heads and ten horns are the issue. The ten horns are often understood as a reference to ten ruling powers in Europa in the Last Days (more on this below). Exactly which 10 is debated. In my opinion, they are ten Europeans families or "houses" that have populated European nobility since the disintegration of the Roman Empire under the leadership of the Merovingian family.

The Seven Heads are understood to represent the seven hills of the city of Rome (see below). Rome has always been known as the City of Seven Hills. Vatican City (in Roma) is a legally recognized country complete with Ambassadors and has been since the fall of Roma as an empire. In Vatican City Rome lives on.

The following verses speak more about the coming Antichrist referencing Daniel's descriptions. Then we pick up again...

11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon....

This is a reference to the False Prophet whom we are discussing here.

12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast [ie the Antichrist] before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six....

Due to the contextual positioning of these two beasts it is my understanding that second beast, the False Prophet, will hail from the City of Seven Hills even as the First Beast (the Antichrist) will hail from the ten royal families of Europa.

This is one of the main biblical sources of this prophetic understanding.

IF this is the correct understanding, then the False Prophet would be the leader of Vatican City/the Roman Catholic Church and hence most likely the sitting Pope at the time the Antichrist arises. It is also possible, though I think doubtful, that Antichrist will appoint a new Pope of his choosing. I find this doubtless because he will want the authority of the "real Pope" on his side.

We pick up the topic again:

Revelation 17
1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will show unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns....

This "woman" according to this view is the Roman Catholic Church OF THAT FUTURE TIME. Note that she has the seven heads and ten horns. She has the authority of both Roma/Vatican City and the Antichrist whom she serves.

Note also that she is not a political entity herself but that she has fornication or inappropriate relations with the politicians of the world and become rich and powerful as a result.

We continue:

4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration....

Understand that these things are yet future.

The Roman Catholic Church of today is NOT Babylon the Great. This "whore" exists during the reign of the Beast and he has yet to arise.

7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns...

As is often the case, the text itself will explain its purport:

8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. ...

As I explained in my original reply to you, the Antichrist will live on this earth as a man, he will be assassinated (after committing the abomination of desolation), and then he will live again (rise from the dead) and all the world will wonder after him.

9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

See this? Let me repeat: The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

The seven heads are the seven hills of Rome. There is no other feasible interpretation for this.

18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

The Great City of Roma will be the seat of the Antichrist's power until he moves his throne to Jerusalem.

The belief then is that as the day draws closer for the Antichrist to be revealed as the leader of the united and empowered European Union he will incorporate the authority of the Roman Catholic Church, as European leaders always have, for his own good.

Due to the almost irresistible charisma of the "Great Leader," as the False Prophet (whoever he turns out to be) embraces him he will declare him to be the Messiah. The word "Catholic" means Universal and at this time it will become the only legal religion on earth, a true Universal religion dedicated to Great Leader, Rex Mundi, known to Christians as Antichrist and to Muslim as Dijal.

Again:

Rev 13:12 And he [the False Prophet] exerciseth all the power of the first beast [Antichrist] before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed....

The False Prophet will lead a global ecumenical revival based in Roma (the City of Seven Hills) that will glorify the coming king:

II Thessalonians 2
1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day [the establishment of God's Kingdom on Earth] shall not come, except there come a falling away first [the Laodecian Church period reverenced in Rev. 3:15-20: i.e. the hypocritical, lukewarm Church of today], and that man of sin [ie the Antichrist] be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God...

The False Prophet will lead the world in the worship of the Man of Sin, the Antichrist.

Prophet Daniel lists (Dan 2:31-45 and 7:1-28) the four key governments that will rule the earth in his future (Babylon (7:4), Medo Persia (7:5), Greece (7:6) and Rome (7:7). He lists Rome as the final government, showing how it would collapse into "ten toes" (Dan 2:40-43). These toes (the nations of Europa) would fight among themselves but survive and later reunite under the authority of the "Little Horn" or Antichrist in the Last days (7:8).

Finally, "in the days of those kings" the Ancient of Days will call forth His Moshiach to establish God's Kingdom. That Kingdom will destroy the Kingdom of the Little Horn, ie the EU (New Rome) and all who oppose the God of Heaven (the prophets specify Russia and China and the "Kings of the South" which is almost certainly as reference to the Islamic Ummah -- the Egyptian Brotherhood Project.

During the reign of these final kings, lead by the Antichrist or Little Horn, we read:

Matt 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

To save the Jews (especially those in Israel), the Elect, God is going to destroy the New World Order, its coming King, his False Prophet and others who refuse to accept the Coming Kingdom.

This is what the prophets teach.

The current Pope was a Hitler Youth so in some ways he seems like a logical candidate to lead the religious worship of the Antichrist, however until the Antichrist is revealed there is no "Babylon the Great," there is no "False Prophet" etc. because all of these will be set in place to serve the Beast and his master, Lucifer.

Note that when these things happen true Believers are called to:

Rev 18:4:Come out of her [Babylon the Great], my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities...

So obviously there will be godly people within the Roman Catholic Church up to this point (otherwise why say to get out?). The Roman Catholic Church of today is NOT Babylon the Great. The Pope is not the False Prophet today. The hierarchy of the Church will be taken over/redirected by the False Prophet and turned to the worship of the Rex Mundi as though he were God. When this happens, GET OUT! AND get out of any Protestant Churches or any others that join with the False Prophet in embracing the Antichrist!

Hope this clarifies things.

Baptists hold certain unique understandings as well as the "fundamentals of the faith" held by most other denominations. Harmonious with the essential Baptist doctrine known as the Priesthood of all Believers, some Baptists are very conservative (such as Jerry Falwell and Fred Phelps) while others are quite liberal (such as Jesse Jackson and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr). For help understanding Baptist and other biblical issues, drop me a line. I can also shed light on questions that are often considered "sensitive." Ask me anything and I'll do my best to share what I know.

Experience

I have a lot of experience in this area. I've studied the Holy Scriptures for over 40 years. I hold a Missionary Baptist ordination as well as one from Calvary Chapel. I was a missionary in Central America for a while, an avid street minister and have preached in many churches, on the radio and so on. I also have an MA Religious Studies from JFK University as well as other pieces of paper. The only ordination that really matters comes from God of course.
While I am no longer a Baptist I can answer any question anyone is likely to have from a Baptist perspective.
My personal beliefs are now more accurately described as Messianic or Noahide Nazarene. If you are interested in this perspective just ask.
