QuestionI know catholics believe in saints but do protestants acknowledge saints? Also what was the first faith?
AnswerFrank:
Sorry for the delay...I have been out of town for a couple of days and away from my computer.
Unlike Catholic tradition in which one is awarded sainthood posthumously (after death) after having lived a life replete with many accomplishments, Protestants generally believe that one becomes a saint upon receiving Jesus Christ as Saviour. I can think of nearly a hundred scriptures in which some form of the word "saint" is used to refer to those who are alive and well and endeavoring to make their lives count for God.
Concerning the other part of your question concerning "the first faith", I am unsure of your intent. There are many denominations that claim the ability to trace their roots back to the time of Christ and even before. Denominations are a man-made designation. Old Testament saints followed the priestly hierarchy that God had ordained. The Apostles were simply followers of Christ. There were no signs in the front yards or over the doors of the Tabernacles, Synagogues, or Temples ascribing that meeting place to the auspices of a particular denomination.
Hope this helps, Frank. Thanks so much for your questions.
