Question
An Atheist asked me if your God Jesus is love and love us then why He command Saul to killed every one including women and infant of Amalek ?

1 Samuel Chapter 15
15:2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.

15:3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

Answer
God is love and just and righteous and holy and a lot of other attributes.  God does avenge His people and Amalek had sought to destroy them.  We probably do not have the whole story of what Amalek did to the Jewish people.  Also, many of the people of the land were very perverted and may have had diseases that make AIDs look like the measles. When some archeologists discovered a temple in Canaan the drawings on the walls were so vile that they actually blew chunks.  Those children and animals most likely had some STDs or other diseases that would have the infected the Jews if only the "guilty" were killed and they later intermingled contrary to God's will. They may have also been very painful and debilitating to those who had them. The babies being innocent I believe went to heaven whereas had they lived to be pagans they would have went to Hell.  I only know that the judge of all the earth does right and that was the right thing to do in that situation.   When we get there He can give us the full details though it will not matter then.

There is a lesson here that the federal heads of families and nations are responsible for what they do and what they do affects all their family and people not just them. We need to be careful of what we do against God.
