Baptists/Women leaders in the Baptist Church

Question
I was raised in a Southern Baptist Church and was continually told that the Southern Baptists do not think women should be pastors or in any leadership positions within the church.  But then again, most of the Sunday School teachers were women.  Is there any truth to this "doctrine" or is was I told a bunch of bull?

Answer
Hello, Mark.
1Timothy 3 speaks leads one to understand that the man is to be the leader in spiritual things, the home, etc.
Ephesians 5:22 gives us the impression that wives are to be subject to their husbands and the husbands are subject to God.
Also, 1Peter 3.  Wives be submissive to your husbands.  Also, it tells us what is obvious; that wives are the weaker person, as evidenced with Eve's giving in to temptation.
Salesmen would rather speak to the woman of the house in order to sell things, I've noticed.
I share your feelings and have answered it for years with thinking that women are doing it because there are no Godly men that will.
Of course, there are women that want to be equal to men.  They probably have a difficult time with these scriptures.
There were a few women of the Bible that were significant leaders and mentioned as that, but the best, I feel, would be a man in all positions of authority.
When you think of how little influence a child has from a man, we can see how society has become what it is.  It's usually after high school that a man is teaching our children.
I heard a man giving a motivational teaching to men say that they are born male, and they have to choose to be a man.
We need more men to choose this.
Have a good day.

I have time for you. The Bible has been my guiding light for most of the 56 years of my life. My missionary parents in Brazil kindled a love for God`s Word by their example and their love for truth. The Lord has blessed my husband and me with responsible, independent children who love and serve the Lord and are our best friends. I would enjoy discussing any subject or problem from a Biblical perspective.

Experience

I help lead music in a small Southern Baptist Church. Although I rarely have the opportunity to play, I do play the bass guitar, drums, tambourine, harmonica and piano. I like Southern Gospel and praise choruses, but only know by heart the words from the hymnal, and my vocal range is half an octave lower than most music is written, but fortunately my husband transposes well and also plays by ear.
