QuestionDo you believe that god would tell a man or women that a loving caring, very true relationship is wrong? our lords most powerful weapon is love how could he condemn it?9q7k
AnswerHello Darren,
Thank you for your question. Although a short question the answer will need to be a little longer!
Basically the answer depends on the nature of that relationship and what is meant by the word 'wrong'.
A loving, caring relationship that is within the clear moral boundaries God has revealed is never in itself sinful but that does mean it is right to continue with. For example sometimes people have withdrawn from such a relationship because one of the people believes they should go to be a missionary and one not. In such a case #and any other where the people concerned feel called by God to differing paths# a relationship can be wrong in the sense that it could hinder God's work etc.
If a loving and caring relationship is expressed in an immoral way then it is wrong in the sense that it is wrongly expressed. So a relationship that involves sexual activity outside marriage is wrong according to what God has revealed in the bible. Also a sexual relationship between two people of the same sex is wrong on a similar basis. Also many child abuse relationships involve genuine feelings of love and care. To love and to care is never wrong but how the relationship is expressed can be.
Biblically love is not at root a feeling though feelings are involved. Love is the choice to be committed to an individual in such a way that you always seek what is best for them, regardless, even though it involves sacrifice to yourself.
God is our model of love and the supreme example of that love is the cross where Jesus died for us.
I hope these comments are of some help and I pray God will encourage and bless you.
