Baptists/Crucifixion witnesses

Question
If John, out of the disciples, is the only witness of Jesus Crucifixion then why does Matthew have the account in his Gospel and why is it different than John's account?

Answer
Hi Ryan,

Hope you are ok and thank you for this question of which I will do my best to answer.

John's version of this is in fact different to that of the other three Gospels. Most scholars seem to think that Matthew and Luke got their information from Mark, so Mark's account is generally regarded as the original, but tradition says that Mark got most of his information from Peter!

John mentions the "Desciple Whom Jesus Loved" or "The Beloved Disciple", but he is never mentioned in the other three Gospels.

The only conclusion I can come to is that the Author of John had a source of information that the other three Gospel writers did not.

This source can assumed to be the named "Beloved Desciple" himself as John as John 21:24 confirms.

I hope this helps!

God Bless

Expertise

I can answer most questions on the subject of the Baptist/Christian faith. I am an active member of a Baptist Church Fellowship. I study the Bible and the Scriptures every day and have no problem talking to people about this. I am more than happy to answer the Lord's calling and help and support all people that are in need. I believe that is now my role in life.

Experience

Some times people go the wrong way in life because they have been let down by those that are close to them. It is all about trust, compassion and support. I carry out a lot of outreach work, so I know how important these things are to be able to reach people. I have worked with drug addicts and the homeless, as well as young people who have lost their way in life or are in prison.
