Question
Hi. Is it a sin for a women to even cut her hair a little bit. Also, is it wrong for women to wear pants? I know that paul talked about hair as a covering. Did Jesus's sacrifice have any effect on these rules?

Answer
Hi Michelle,

Thanks for your question. I know this aspect of Dress and Decorum is quite common problems in the Church. I have tried to sum it up in a few points.

1. Your relationship with Christ is more than Dress and Decoration. A born again person will certainly know what to wear for Church and else where.

2. There will be many people who will dress very expensive to Church and will try to show the Church of his/her own spiritual standing as perfect and firm. But look at the disciples they were stinking fishermen who gave their "hearts" and lives to God as a living sacrifice.

3. The sacrifice of Christ abolished the Moral law(law of Moses, not the Ten commandments)so we obey the Law and are under Grace. God looks at the contrite Heart and Broken spirit, Dress and Decoration of Self has nothing to do with it. However, we are know by our Fruits, Fruits of the Spirit.

4. While on one hand we are not judged by our Clothes while on the other we need to be aware what we wear in the presence of God in Church. Yes, Jesus does say come as you are, not physically but spiritually.

5. Women in the New Testament,, were asked to cover their Head because women with long hair were seen with sinful intention(prostitutes) and the Church discourage women from wearing pants because it is Men's clothing and because it show their figures and would be disturbing the Men in Church.

6. Men and Women need to keep their sexual identities, but women can certainly wear pants when it is cold and so on, and can certainly cut their hair to look decent and beautiful.

7. God loves us more than we can imagine. There is more to Christianity than Hair and Pants. However, Cutting hair and wearing Pants certainly is not sinning.

I hope I have answered your question. Thank you very much for question. May God bless you in your Ministry. Can I suggest you read the book " Counsels on Dress and Diet" by  E G White which was quite helpful to a lot of people I know. God bless
