Baptists/rethinking beliefs following mother's death
Expert: Pastor Don Carpenter - 12/23/2009
QuestionMy mother was recently in a coma for several days. One day she slowly came back to life and said she saw Jesus and he sent her back to say good-bye. Late that night she said she would not see me again. She did not wake up again for several days. At midnight on a Monday I went to check on her and she had her eyes wide open, a big smile and was staring at the light above. She asked me to go back to bed and not come back and said she did not want to talk to family anymore as she was looking for Jesus to come take her home. She died 2 hours later. Since her death 2 weeks ago, I swear I have seen her and talked to her about my beliefs that there was no Jesus or God or Heaven. I believe that she is trying to tell me there really is and I believe her. I told my husband and he thinks I am losing my mind. Do you believe she could be trying to help me fill the long time void in my life by teaching me that there is life after death? Also, what is the church's beliefs about seniors playing cards for small amounts of money and on couples dancing--not provocatively. My husband was raised Catholic and me Nazarene but he is willing to check out the baptist church my parents attend as I really liked the pastor's message to my family. What do you think is happening?

AnswerHi Sarah,
Thank you for this great question. You have been given a very special gift. You have been given the chance to reconsider your beliefs before it is too late to change them. I believe that God is drawing you to Himself. He loves you and wants you to have the peace and security that your mother had and now has face to face. God is drawing you to Himself. He came to your mother while she was in a coma and welcomed her home. He allowed you to witness that.... God so wants you to believe.
John 6:44
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
Jesus died for you and wants you to trust Him. Ask Him to save you and He will!
John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
Romans 5:8
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
Romans 10:9,10,13
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
I hope that this helps you.
In Christ

PS. If your mother trusted Jesus to save her, then any sin she may have comitted is under the blood. Even if you can see some imperfections, she is still in heaven because Jesus covered those flaws. He will do the same for you.
