Matthew 27:46
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.

Jesus Christ, the perfect sinless Lord of Glory, hung in agony on the cross.  At noon when the sun should shine brightly, it became dark.  Why would God the Father turn His back on His own Son.  We find the answer in the following verse:

2 Corinthians 5:21
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.

Jesus Christ literally BECAME sin!  God the Father had to turn His back on His own Son because God cannot look directly on sin.  Jesus BECAME OUR SIN so that if we trust in Him, we can become His righteousness.
