Baptists/Marriage in Baptist Church

Question
My fiancee has never been married.  I was married for twenty years.  I have been divorced for six years.  My ex-husband died last year.  We are a bit nervous because we are afraid our Pastor may not want to marry us because I was divorced.  Is it wrong according to the Baptist doctrine?

Answer
Hi Theresa,

Thank you for this great question.  When you were first married, you promised to stay together until death do you part.  Divorce or not, death has parted you from your first husband.  I would have no problem with marrying you both if you were in our church.  I hope that this helps you.

Expertise

I believe that every word of the Bible is God-Breathed. This blessed book is the foundation of truth for faith and practice. If you ask this volunteer a question you will receive an answer from the Bible that is based upon a litteral, normal interpretation, taking into account the grammar and culture of the time.

Experience

I have been in the ministry almost 20 years. During this time, the Lord has used me as Senior Pastor, counsellor, youth pastor and generally in the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry.
