Question
QUESTION: Dr. Kryger:
Can you tell me your understanding of the scripture where Jesus spoke of (not exact scripture) "if your eye causes you to sin... gauge it out... better to..than whole body being cast into hell...)
thank you.

ANSWER: Leah:
Thank you for your question, and for your patience.
When you look at this verse, Matthew 18:9, in the proper context (as all Scripture should be studied) the idea is to not let anyone or anything keep you from making the most important decision of your life.  Many people allow their friends, family, financial position or future plans keep them from trusting Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour.  This passage is also a reminder for us to not be a hindrance to anyone else coming to Christ.

QUESTION: Interesting.  I never looked at this, this way.
So, would this be for unbelievers or those who already know Christ?
thank you.

Answer
I believe, and this is just my personal opinion, that the context implies the warning being given to unbelievers.  Although the verses that surround Matthew 18:9 are an admonition for believers to not hinder unbelievers from coming to Christ.  So the argument could be made that this is for believers to not be a stumblingblock.
