Baptists/Deacons/Board of Directors

Question
I have a question about what the Bible says about deacons. We have a "board of church directors" who also double as our deacons. There are 5 people in this group. Two of them care about the church and the direction it is heading and obviously show it. They also make every attempt to attend every service and event. In my opinion, this is what a good board member/deacon should do. The other 3 however only come on Sunday mornings and only if it fits into their time schedule. To them the other services and events are "extracurricular". They seem to want the church to be their little social club and nothing more. In my opinion, these 3 people, who granted are good people and have good intentions, are not fit to be on the board. I've searched the Bible for answers on what to do about it. What does the Bible say about deacons?"

Answer
Hi Zack,

First I apologise for the late reply but for some reason this has only just come through.

If you read 1 Tim 3:8-13 it will tell you about Deacons. Deacons are officers of the church, just being their on a Sunday morning is not fulfilling their duties at all, they are Deacons in name only. And no way should a church be seen as a social club ib any way.

I am myself besides other things a church Deacon and Secretary and I know the importance of my roles.

We appoint or reappoint Deacons for a 3 year period but that is not to say they cannot be removed at anytime, I would raise this with the church leaders/members. At least it will be out in the open and they then have to fulfill their duties or be asked to stand down.

I hope this helps

Regards and God Bless

Expertise

I can answer most questions on the subject of the Baptist/Christian faith. I am an active member of a Baptist Church Fellowship. I study the Bible and the Scriptures every day and have no problem talking to people about this. I am more than happy to answer the Lord's calling and help and support all people that are in need. I believe that is now my role in life.

Experience

Some times people go the wrong way in life because they have been let down by those that are close to them. It is all about trust, compassion and support. I carry out a lot of outreach work, so I know how important these things are to be able to reach people. I have worked with drug addicts and the homeless, as well as young people who have lost their way in life or are in prison.
