Question
Dear Dr. Bateman. Very precious greetings to you in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ. On the above mentioned subject, there is a slight controversy in christian circles as to whether God requires this area of ministry today. One solid scripture is in the book of Malachi where the Lord demands tiths and offering. Now, in the NT I see where the Lord requires offerings, but I see no mention of tithing. I really do not know what to believe anymore on the matter. My church believes in tithing and I am personally not against it, but if someone should ask me if God wants it today I am totally at a loss as to my response. Can you address this matter for me? I need the revelation of this subject. Thanks and may the Lord bless you richly.

Answer
Hi David, I see this question is meant for Dr. Bateman, hope fully he will also respond to you as my knowledge of this is not too good.

Tithing is only mentioned 2-3 times in the New Testament, yet the subject of offerings is.

But we are always encouraged to give to those less fortunate than ourselves, this is a form of tithing. But you could say that it is down to freedom of choice, but the Christian way of life says we must do this.

God guides in what we think is right and as to how we do it, if this means tithing then it is right for you to do so.

I know my answer is short but as I say my knowledge is not good with this, I hope our friend Dr Bateman can help us out with this.

Regards and God Bless

Expertise

I can answer most questions on the subject of the Baptist/Christian faith. I am an active member of a Baptist Church Fellowship. I study the Bible and the Scriptures every day and have no problem talking to people about this. I am more than happy to answer the Lord's calling and help and support all people that are in need. I believe that is now my role in life.

Experience

Some times people go the wrong way in life because they have been let down by those that are close to them. It is all about trust, compassion and support. I carry out a lot of outreach work, so I know how important these things are to be able to reach people. I have worked with drug addicts and the homeless, as well as young people who have lost their way in life or are in prison.

Past/Present Clients
I do not call them clients, they are people in need of the love of God and of people. I have mentored many young people, including those that are in our local prison, to hopefully live an honest and Christian life.
