Question
In Matt 6:13 some versions leave out the second half of the verse. Which version is right?

Answer
Hi Joyce,
Thank you for your question.   The answer is the verse should read "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."  (Matthew 6:13)
Some of the the modern version of the Bible such as the NIV leave the passage out.  Others such as the NASB put it in paraphrases which suggests it was not in the original.  Some versions leave out "for yours" and "Amen."  Some footnote the verse says the last part is not in the "better" or "oldest" manuscripts (ms) which absolutely an incorrect statement.  Many popular churches and preachers have switched to the modern version particularly the NIV.
However, it should be included in the text as does the English KJV which is the best English translations of the Bible.   It is supported by Textus Receptus Greek text which is a part of the Majority Text or Western Text.  There are close to 6000 extant (existing) manuscripts that make up the Majority Text.
On the other hand the omittion of the last part of the verse is only supported by three manuscripts called the Minority Text or Eastern Text which are corrupted and do not agree with one another.(Aleph, A, B)  There are only these three manuscripts in the Minority texts and about five other partial mss.  Thus the evidence is overwhelmingly on the side of the KJV translation.
In spite of the popularity of the modern version they are seriously flawed.   I simple comparative reading of the NIV and KJV shows the inferior text of the modern versions.
I have an article titled "How we got the Bible"  and in the article there is an explanation of the modern controversy and the facts involved.
The article is at http://bible-truth.org/Howwegot.html and the chapter "Attacks on the Bible" is at http://bible-truth.org/Howwegot.html#010a and begins what is wrong with the modern versions in some detail.
One thing one constantly hears is the NIV is a better translation.  There is a test at http://bible-truth.org/NIVtest.html in which you can read twenty five
Bible questions you can look up using the NIV.  The answer it quite revealing.  Another common critizism of the KJV is that it is hard to read.  The truth is the KJV is written on a eight grade level whereas the modern versions are on a ten grade level.  There is a beauty to the text of the KJV that is absent from the modern versions.  If you heard someone read the KJV you would know it was the Bible, God's word.   However, the correctness of the KJV is in that it is an accurate authenicate realiable translation.

Thank you for writing and God bless you as you seek God's truth.  If you have further questions or comments please write.
