Baptists/Communion

Question
Please could you tell me why Baptists do not seem to follow the Bible when it comes to drinking wine during communion? I refer to an answer from Lynette Munoz on 3/28/2004: "The ushers will then pass out the grape juice (not wine) and then the pastor will pray and then everyone will partake." Jesus said: "I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father's Kingdom." which indicates that Jesus gave his disciples wine to drink at the very first Lord's Supper.

Answer
Hi David,

Thank you for this question and as usual I will do my best .

In my Baptist church as well as all others we do not use wine for Holy Communion, we infact use blackcurrent juice.
As you say, first the ushers bring round the bread and then the blackcurrent juice.

This is for several reasons:

Young people in the congregation.
Alcoholics in the congregation.
Non drinkers in the congregation.

And you are right that is what Jesus said.

It does not really matter if it is wine or not in the eyes of God it is the significance of what it means, it is our personal faith when we take the bread and blackcurrent, as long as we remember that it represents the blood of Jesus, and why he gave His blood for us on the cross.

Coming to the table in Holy Communion is very important to us, and those that feel they are not in Christ should let the bread and blackcurrent pass them by and not partake in the Communion.

It is all about faith in the Lord and remembering what He did for us.

Regards and God Bless

Expertise

I can answer most questions on the subject of the Baptist/Christian faith. I am an active member of a Baptist Church Fellowship. I study the Bible and the Scriptures every day and have no problem talking to people about this. I am more than happy to answer the Lord's calling and help and support all people that are in need. I believe that is now my role in life.

Experience

Some times people go the wrong way in life because they have been let down by those that are close to them. It is all about trust, compassion and support. I carry out a lot of outreach work, so I know how important these things are to be able to reach people. I have worked with drug addicts and the homeless, as well as young people who have lost their way in life or are in prison.
