Baptists/Doubts and confusion

Question
How does one know for sure that they are saved and are now a child of God?  I believe I have been born again, but lately I've been bombarded by doubts.  I'm not doubting God, His promises, and His ability to save, but myself, my faith, and knowledge.  One thought that keeps running through my head is that I just have mental, intellectual assent to who Jesus is and what He did on the cross for me, but that it is not actual saving faith.  I'm really confused.  I want nothing more than to be a born again child of God.

Answer
Hi Amanda,

This is a question that I am often asked, as many people at times feel the same as you. You feel that you were born again, so at that time your faith was strong, so why do you now doubt yourself.

We have to have a mental and intellectual assent who Jesus was, so we can understand, who He was and what He did.

You are not doubting God but your own faith, yet you know what He did for us. Paul said believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. You already believe in His ability to save and you already believe you have been saved.

I believe that the Holy Spirit is within you, but at times we all feel that we are not worthy of His love and Grace and that is confusing, I also at times feel the same way and I do His work every day!

Take time out to pray and meditate, talk to the Lord, as much as you need to as He does not mind how much we talk to Him, if you do not talk to Him how can He answer you and put your mind at rest.He does not wish you to be confused, I know you still have faith, so does He!

Please do not doubt yourself tell Him how you feel, and He will come closer to you. You really are a child of God, make no mistake, the fact that you wrote this letter, proves how much you love Him and He loves you.

Amanda, I ask that you put your doubts to rest and realise that you are in Christ and Christ is in you, please do not be confused any longer as God loves you and that is your saving Grace.

Regards and God Bless

Expertise

I can answer most questions on the subject of the Baptist/Christian faith. I am an active member of a Baptist Church Fellowship. I study the Bible and the Scriptures every day and have no problem talking to people about this. I am more than happy to answer the Lord's calling and help and support all people that are in need. I believe that is now my role in life.

Experience

Some times people go the wrong way in life because they have been let down by those that are close to them. It is all about trust, compassion and support. I carry out a lot of outreach work, so I know how important these things are to be able to reach people. I have worked with drug addicts and the homeless, as well as young people who have lost their way in life or are in prison.
