Question
What is the Southern Baptist Convestion's position on the new Common English Bible?

Answer
Blessings and thank you for your question.

I have to admit that this was something new for me.  I hadn't heard of this translation at all.  I spent some time researching and I can't find anything written from the SBC on it.  That doesn't mean someone hasn't, I just couldn't find it.

My understanding is that the New Testament will be released next month.  I would expect to find articles on it after the offical release.  What I know about it now is that it is competing with the NIV but it has a more "mainline or non-evangelical" slant to it.  While I read some partially released sections, I disagree with how they are translating the texts.  But, we will have to wait until all of it comes out to make a judgment on it.

The SBC is pushing the Broadman/Holdman Bible as the common Bible among Baptists.  They have not been as successful as they hoped.  While I have a Broadman, I will continue to use my favorite the NASB.
