Baptists/deaconess question

Question
We had a deacon to pass away last year in our church.  His widow just got remarried.  My question is should she still be sitting in the deaconess corner.  We are Southern Baptist and I am new to the church.

Answer
Thanks for writing, Carla.  I'm not much of an expert on church ceremony if it's not specifically mentioned in the Bible.  If it's a matter that affects the church's representation of Christ to the world, even if it's not specifically mentioned in the Bible, I would have a strong opinion.
If, by sitting in the deaconess corner, she is still willing to help serve the church along with the other deacons' wives, then I wouldn't bring it up unless she asks.  I think a willingness to reflect Jesus in whatever opportunity arises, is more helpful to a church than a formal title.
However, if she married an unbeliever, the Bible specifically forbids that, so she should not be allowed to represent the church in any way, unless she openly repents.
   I hope this helps some.

Expertise

I have time for you. The Bible has been my guiding light for most of the 56 years of my life. My missionary parents in Brazil kindled a love for God`s Word by their example and their love for truth. The Lord has blessed my husband and me with responsible, independent children who love and serve the Lord and are our best friends. I would enjoy discussing any subject or problem from a Biblical perspective.

Experience

I help lead music in a small Southern Baptist Church. Although I rarely have the opportunity to play, I do play the bass guitar, drums, tambourine, harmonica and piano. I like Southern Gospel and praise choruses, but only know by heart the words from the hymnal, and my vocal range is half an octave lower than most music is written, but fortunately my husband transposes well and also plays by ear.
