Question
Pastor Carpenter,

Thank you very much for your time.  I am preparing a lesson for a Children at my church on Palm Sunday.  We are going to be reading Matthew 21 1-17.  I have a question about verse 16.  I am not sure what that means.

Answer
Hi Tanya,

Thanks for this great question.  I know I am too late, I am so sorry.  I will answer your question anyway.  Let us look at the context:

Matthew 21:14–16 (AV)
14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. 15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased, 16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

Little children were crying out praises in the Temple.  The chief priests were very angry that the children would proclaim that Jesus was the Messiah and they wanted Jesus to tell them to stop.  The Old Testament prophecies that this would happen, so Jesus quoted from that Old Testament passage proving that what these little children were saying was correct.  I hope that this helps you.
