Baptists/the immortal soul
Expert: Clive Heath - 7/2/2011
QuestionQUESTION: Can the terms immortal soul be found in the bible and if not why do you adhere and teach such a doctrine when scriptures clearly defies what it is that you preach?
ANSWER: Hello Mike,
I will do my best with this question for you.
You are correct in saying that the Bible does not actually mention an immortal soul in such words.
The immortal soul was mentioned many times in Pagan times, but even though the Bible does not say this, there are many other scriptures that refer to it, such as 1 Tim 6: 13-16. the key phrase in this being in verse 16 "who hath immortality". Paul makes it perfectly clear that God has immortality by nature, we know that.It also goes on to say that immortality is of course the gift of God only.
John 6:53 He says that unless they werwe in a relationship with Him, they could not be immortal, so to be an immortal there has to be mortal.
John 1: 29 Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life" He was declaring that He was the only way to eternal life.
So Mike, there are many other referrances in the Bible about immortality, but all confirming that the only way to be sure of eternal life/immortality is through the Fith and Salvation of Jesus Christ.
Hope this helps

QUESTION: so therefore christinas who die in the faith do not posess immortality their not in Heaven yet,so what i,m saying bascily is why preach the dcotrine of the eternal (immortal soul) when it clearly contradicts scripture, could you be wrong? so this imo is bascily adding to the word of God,cause knowhere in the bible does it teach that when a beliver die they go directly to Heaven, that,s a lie.so who would jesus be coming back for if thie supposviely already up there? make sense absolutely.it does not say anyhere in the biel that a soul e.joins a physical body many misconstue the teaching of paul to be absent from the body, and many use the theif on the cross, but let it be known it all depends on where the comma is placed which can change the whole meaning completely. The comma periods etc. were not present in the original gGreek they were added m much later when the bible was printed in English.
ANSWER: Hi Mike,
This does not contradict what it says in the scriptures. The Kingdom of God will be Heaven and a new earth, once Jesus returns and He will.
Even though the Bible does not say much about Heaven, it says and we know that is where God is, and we know that when we die our spirit and soul go to be with Him, thus we live.Perhaps He does not tell us too much about it as He knows that our minds could never comprehend terms like eternity and infinite, I find it hard.
I am aware of the punctuation controversy, but no matter what the thief was told he would go to paradise.
It says in John 13:36 "You cannot follow me now, but you will follow me later"
Also, in John the the Lord says that a place will be prepared for us in His Fathers house, so we will be where He is.
And in Phillipians 1;21 " For me to live is Christ and to die is gain"
I am happy to preach this, as I believe that when we die, as long as we die ifn Faith that we go to be with the Lord, where else would we go.
Blessings

QUESTION: do you consider the possiblity thqat you could be a false teacher? and what about all those you,ve decieved?
AnswerHi Mike,
No I am not a false teacher, I teach the Word of God, this being endorsed by the Bible itself as this is the Word of God. I am not about to quote you every relevant verse of the Bible, but there are amny, and that is where your answer is.
Jesus died so as we could have everlasting [eternal] life, if I did not believe what I teach then simply I would not teach it!
