Baptists/preachers pastoring a church when they have been married before

Question
QUESTION: I have always attened a southern babtist church and always beliefed that a pastor should not have been married before.  My husband and I are searching for a new church. It seems we enyoy and believe the Indepentent church the best, but I don't understand some pastors having previous marriges. doesn't the Bible say a husband of one wife? Please give an answer.

ANSWER: Hi Rachhel
  Thank you for your question and  concern about doctrinal integrity of pastors.  I have an article on my web site at http://bible-truth.org/1Timothy3-2.html which  explains what the Bible teaches.   Briefly, a divorced pastor is not qualified to pastor a church no matter who he is.  Further, a man whom God does not qualify, God will not bless or use. God will not go against His own word.  Sadly, for personal gain and other reasons, many who were pastors and then divorced do not accept God's word.  Worse, churches aid these men by electing them to be their pastor.

QUESTION: I just wanted to thank you so much for your help.  I thought that I was right but wanted to be sure before we settled on a church.  I know that I want to find an Independent babtist instead of a sourthn baptist because of the way most worship. they praise and worship the Lord more. They teach from the bible instead of quaterlys. Thank you so much.

Hi Rachael,
  I was raised SBC, but for many reasons left and became Independent.  You are certainly correct.  There are a few SBC that still believe and preach God's word, but they are fast disappearing.
