Baptists/End times

Question
Rev. Woodward,

I have been a member of a Baptist church for a number of years.  My question for you is about the end of time.  If religion is mentioned to my parents, all they talk about is the end of times.  My brother died 4 years ago and that seemed to increase their discussion on the subject.  To be honest, this disturbs me.  I feel that I am a strong Christain  but talking of Armagedon and the mark of the beast and such makes me uncomfortable.  In your opinion is this normal for me to feel this way  and are my parents right to dwell on this?
Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Tanya,
Thanks for your question. You are obviouly having a hard time at the moment. The doctrine of the end time is very important and many Christians do not consider it enough. However, it is only one a number of very important doctrines and it is important to keep wise balance. I think your feelings are perfectly understandable though perhaps you are not the best person to try to help your parents through this. You need to build relationships in the church which will give you a break from the one theme. Also you could talk to your pastor about the situation and ask his help. If you think your relationship with your parents strong and open you could talk to them very gently about your concerns.
I am sorry I cannot be of more help but be assured your feelings on this matter are quite understandable.
May God bless you and give you wisdom.
