Question
Could you please explain this verse to me. I never seem to understand the meaning behind it.

Answer
Blessings and thank you for your question.

Verse 12 refers back to verse 11 and the explanation as to why Jesus spoke in parables.  It has to do with the secrets of the kingdom of heaven.  In the gospels, "secret" refers to something that God has revealed to His people that which was previously unknown. The secret is told to all but only those with faith can understand.  And those that understand will be given even more understanding.  In this context, the secret is that the kingdom of God has come in Jesus Christ.  Some will accept it and fall away later, some will reject it outright, and some will take this knowledge and live it out.

Later, the apostle Paul will say that only those with the Spirit understand the things of the Spirit.  That God uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.
