Question
What is the distinction between propositional knowledge of God and relational knowledge of God? How is this distinction important practically and espistomologically?
Hi Kay,
I am not sure I understand your question and can give you a good answer, but I will try.
I propostional knowledge of God would seem to entail some question as to the existence of God. I'm not sure I understand, but I would think that approach would have a subjective element. That view would be unbiblical because salvation and a knowledge of God begins with the belief that He is. However, it could lead one to honestly seeking the truth about God and lead to faith.(See Romans 1:18-23).
A relational knowledge stems from faith because there can be no relationship with God a part from saving faith.
A relational knowledge however must be based in truth...which would be the revealed word of God in the Bible. A relational knowledge based on truth will produce a spiritual and postional relationship with a person as they become a child of God and are indwelled by the Holy Spirit. (See 1 Cor. 2:14)
