Question
what does it mean and stand for

Answer
Yes, I know what the Y2K issue was about as I am a FT IT person.  I was just relating to you what people were all excited about not the programmers.

BC stands for Before Christ and AD is Anno Domini or In the Year of Our Lord in Latin.  Prior to the apostasy from a Christian worldview, time was divided into Before Christ and After Christ, but now many use CE - Common Era and BCE - Before the Common Era.

Many legal documents still use things like "hereby confirmed on this 27th day of June, 2003 AD" or Anno Domini. Some will even say the year of our Lord, 2003.

One thing about it is that Christ's birth may have actually happened in what we would call 4 BC or even as late as 4 AD and there is no year 0 so technically we are really in 2002 because of the 0 thing, but we could be in 2007 or 1996 depending on whose date you use for His birth.  Thus the big hoo ha over Y2K from a Bible standpoint was silly because we may have been 4 years past it when we celebrated it or we are 4 years from it.

So, all the prophecies folks made about the Lord's return were dumb from the start.  No man knows the day or the hour so we should do what John Wesley lived by.  John said that he planned his life like Christ was not coming for a 100 years but lived his life like He may come tonight.

I reckon I gave you a bit more than you asked for, but hopefully I helped you some.  Blessings to you!
