Question
What happened to Jesus and where was his soul/spirit between his cruxifixion and his resurrection? Did he descend to hell as the Apostles' Creed said? If so, did he suffer hellfire for us? It seems reasonable to me that in order to us from hell, Jesus might have to suffer in our behalf there. But if this was so, why did he said "It's finished" when he breathed his last on the cross?

I do believe that Jesus decended into the center of the earth, where hell is. Before the ressurection, all the dead were in the earth, on one side was paradise, and on the other was Hell. Clearly Jesus told the thier that they would both be in paradise that day. Jesus led captivity captive, meaning, he took those in paradise to heaven where they are now.

Ephesians 4:8-10
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

Now, I do not believe that Jesus had to suffer hell fire, but rahter that His blood had to be spilled and applied on the mercy seat in heaven.

Hebrews 9:11-14
11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
