Baptists/after the cross

Question
What happened to Jesus and where was his soul/spirit between his cruxifixion and his resurrection? Did he descend to hell as the Apostles' Creed said? If so, did he suffer hellfire for us? It seems reasonable to me that in order to us from hell, Jesus might have to suffer in our behalf there. But if this was so, why did he said "It's finished" when he breathed his last on the cross?

Answer
Blessings,

At Jesus' death, His soul first went to the Father.  Remember He told the thief on the cross that today they would be together in paradise.  Then His Soul went to Hell to free the Spirits there.

There is a lot of debate about what happened during that time.  Scripture only tells us that He freed some of the Spirits there.

As far as suffering, I don't think He suffered there.
