Baptists/knowledge of and belief in Jesus

Question
My question concerns those who have never heard of Jesus or who perhaps have heard but deeply believe that religion they were born and raised really is the right religion.

Answer
There is no official Baptist position on the question of the eternal status of persons who have never heard of Jesus.  Paul in Romans 2 indicates that persons who have never heard of Christ, but who live a life in obedience to the law of Christ, are counted as righteous before God. Yet interpretations of this verse differ among Baptists. For me personally, it seems clear that Paul is saying that salvation is possible without express knowledge of Christ.
