Question
Was the Bible originally written in Greek or Latin? Either way, since no one currently fluently speaks the language in its original form, isn't the Bible not completely accurate. I know it has been translated, but it can only be the translation/interpretation of the meaning, and the the exact words of God as it was meant to be read.

Answer
Jon,

Well the Bible was written in three languages. Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. It was translated by the Cathloics into latin then the King James edition 1611 was translated from the Latin. You are correct about speaking a language fluently, but most all Pastors and Theologians do speak Greek and hebrew because they truly want to be able to read the orginal texts and be able to get the real meaning of scripture. There are so many tools available to us today that you do not have to be able to speak these languages to be able to get the meaning of the orginal texts. The hollman Christian Standard was translated from the orginal texts into current language. If you want the best translation out in my opinion then find this translation. Lifeway stores carry many different editions. I did may studies using the King James and I really enjoy the New King James, but I still enjoy and understand the King James the best. I caution you against the New International Version, because when the translated it they left many of the words out and in some cases changed the meaning of some passages. I would recommend the Hollman Christian Standard for someone that is a new Christian, because it reads very well. I hope this helps and God Bless you in your study.
