Baptists/no religion

Question
For some time now I have wanted to go to church. My problem is that I never grew up going to church. I have no idea the differences in religions. I have tried many times to read the Bible and don't understand it.  My two children want to go to church also. My husband wont go.  How do I go about figuring out what religion I believe in when I don't understand anything about religion?  My best friend attends a First Baptist Church. I just attended her wedding and was so moved by it. Should I start there?

Answer
Dear Jenni,
It is wonderful to hear of your interest in church.  I think starting with your friend's church would be an excellent idea.
The neat thing about reading the Bible is that we don't have to understand it completely to benefit from reading it.  Isaiah 55 encourages us to seek God even though His thinking is far above ours.  God promises that His word, the Bible, will accomplish things in our lives, so we can respond to Him with faith as He leads us in our daily walk He has planned for us.  Ephesians 2:8-10 is God's plan in a nutshell.
I pray that your husband will see God's grace in your life and your children's lives, and begin to thirst for living water from God also.
   Love,

I have time for you. The Bible has been my guiding light for most of the 56 years of my life. My missionary parents in Brazil kindled a love for God`s Word by their example and their love for truth. The Lord has blessed my husband and me with responsible, independent children who love and serve the Lord and are our best friends. I would enjoy discussing any subject or problem from a Biblical perspective.

Experience

I help lead music in a small Southern Baptist Church. Although I rarely have the opportunity to play, I do play the bass guitar, drums, tambourine, harmonica and piano. I like Southern Gospel and praise choruses, but only know by heart the words from the hymnal, and my vocal range is half an octave lower than most music is written, but fortunately my husband transposes well and also plays by ear.
