QuestionIn the Bible, Christ said in Prayer in Mat 6:10 Hallowed be your name? what is Jesus' father's name? and where in the Bible does it say his name? Is Lord the name of God?
AnswerBlessings and thank you for your question.
The name of God is Yahweh which means I AM. Jews were afraid to say the name of God because of the Ten Commandments rule against using it in vain. So they would not say Yahweh. Yahweh describes God as the eternal, all-knowing, self-existing one who has forever been and who will forever be. It was a name considered the so Holy that no Jew was ever permitted, not even one time in his life to speak it audibly. It was not even permitted to be written in ink except for the scribes who constantly were recopying the scriptures. When the ancient scribe would come to that word, he would go and get a quill which had never had a drop of ink in it. He would then arise and bathe himself. He would then put on clothes which had never been worn and after he had written that work, he would discard that quill which would never be used again and he would discard those clothes which could never be worn again. The First English translators of the Bible were afraid to use His name as well. So you will see the word LORD in all caps (see Gen 2:4). This is to show when Yahweh is used. Later English translaters wanted to use the name of God, however they were not sure how to put it into English. They took the word Yahweh and added the word for Lord, Elohim and combined the two words. This combination is the word Jehovah.
God is called many things in Scripture such as
Jehovah Elohim The Lord Is God
Jehovah Nissi The Lord Is My Banner
Jehovah Rophi The Lord Who Heals Me
Jehovah Jireh The Lord Who Provides
Jehovah Tzadekenu The Lord Our Righteousness
Jehovah Shalom The Lord Of Peace
Jehovah Rohi The Lord Is My Shepherd
Jehovah Shammah The Lord Is Here
In the days of the scripture, no one ever received a name without a purpose. Names had great signifcance and never more so than in those times when God revealed His name to mankind. On one occasion, God referred to himself as Elohim, which means "the faithful one". On another occasion, he calls himself, El Shaddai, which means God Almighty.
I hope this answers your question. Blessings
