Barbados/Weather in August in Barbados

Question
Linda

Wanted to know your opinion about doing a rental along the South East coast of Barbados (Sam Lord's) towards the mid-end of August...while this is our preferred area, I am a bit concerned that the trade wind patterns and weather might make it less enjoyable than a West coast rental. What are your thoughts?

Answer
The wet season in Barbados usually runs from June to November. Tradewinds blow across the entire island Barbados from the coast of Africa. The wind patterns are stronger on the eastern part of the island.

Choosing a rental along the southeast coast vs. the west coast depends upon whether you plan to swim, snorkel or dive.

The southeast coast beaches are quite beautiful, however the rip tides are quite strong, so you need to be careful. There are a few beach areas along the southeast protected by coves. This part of the island tends to have less development, and you will find hotels, restaurants and shopping more spread out.

The views from the southeast coast cannot be matched, particularly at The Crane Hotel. By the way, Crane Beach also has an undertow.

The west coast offers many high end accommodations, and is perfect for swimming and swimming. The waters are the calmest on the side of the island, and offer great opportunities to view wrecks and the giant turtles while snorkeling. The area of Holetown is dotted with lots of famous restaurants, several nightclubs and shopping.

In general, the weather in August might bring some rain, but showers usually don't last long. Temperatures in the daytime run between 80 to 85 degrees, and the nights are usually cooler. Barbados is known for warm weather, and the cooling tradewinds make it quite pleasant.

It should be noted that weather patterns around the world have been changing, and Barbados was quite warmer last winter than usual.
