i am travelling to barbados soon,i enjoy a drink called buckfast tonic wine, can you tell me if the above is for sale on the island? thanks
  sammy.

Answer -
Hello Sammy,

Buckfast tonic wine is a red wine based aperitif made by the Benedictine Monks at Buckfast Abbey in Devon, England.

I have never seen it sold in Barbados but I have never looked for it either. Large well-stocked supermarkets such as Big-B in Rendezvous might carry it as they sell quite a few British as well as international products.

If you want to order it online from the UK, go here:

Have a nice trip,

Answer
Hi!  Heheheh, you might be waiting a while............

Either way, please don't worry bout being 'fleeced.'  Bajans are some of the most honest people I have ever encountered (and I have been up and down the path of thorns - that is sailing talk for the path of islands of the Caribbean).  Don't be foolish and leave your billfold on your balcony, but the crime rate is really low compared to most.  Go for the Mount Gay Rum Tour, Earthworks Pottery and a cruise on Smallcats (only 12 passengers).  Look for a booklet called Barbados in a Nutshell when you get to your hotel.  It will have all the numbers.  Mention it when you book something and you sometimes get a discount.  Fat Jacks is a good uncomplicated car rental.  Jack is an english chap that retired to the island.  Cheaper and easier to work with than most 420-6502.  Try to get to the Ship Inn and don't bother with the Harbourlights or Boatyard.  All the same owner but the former is the best.  The other cater to the cruise ship culture and can be trashy. The other two serve beer in plastic cups - need I say more?  Go to the Oistins fish fry! A must! Take the local bus over to Bathsheba.  Get off at the  big rock and spend the day there eating lunch either at the Round House or at the Atlantic Inn then take the bus back.  The best in local color. It is like a pilgrimage.

Cheers,
Cathrin

PS Mount Gay extra old (don't you dare mix it with anything but air) will make you forget that other stuff......... :o)

I am a 17 time return Barbados enthusiast and have found that I know more about the island and the Bajans than most locals do. The only thing I don`t know much about is the cruise ship culture and the really cheesy touristy attractions.

Whether you need information on sports, shopping, restaurants, nightclubs, transportation, weather or cultural events maybe I can help. If not, I can probably point you in the right direction.
