Barbecue/BBQ question - Porcelain or Lava rocks?
Expert: BBQ Woman - 2/23/2008
QuestionHello - I just replaced the burner in my Sunbeam Grillmaster 450. I was using lava rocks and was going to replace the old rocks w/new ones but wanted your take on porcelain. Which do you prefer? I'm assuming there's a difference when it comes to cooking? I appreciate the help.
AnswerThe biggest difference really is the cost. Usually the ceramic briquettes come with the more expensive grills and they are more expensive to replace. Both distribute the heat pretty much the same. There is another option of getting the ceramic tiles which are toted to distribute the heat more evenly and last allot longer. I bought some but haven't had the opportunity to test them out yet.
Usually its best to go with the manufacturers suggestion so if your unit originally came with lava rocks my advice would be to just use them.
Happy Grilling!
