Barbecue/Trouble with grill
Expert: John Langenfelder - 6/18/2008
QuestionQUESTION: I hope this is the correct place to ask this question: I have a 2 year old Charbroil grill that has hardly any flame, now.
It's not the propane-as we just got a new tank.
Can you help? We have company coming this weekend & this is messing me up (eeek).
Thanks a ton!!
ANSWER: Still have the manual? Have you tried the manufacturers site?
When was the last time you used it and it worked fine? Could be that a spider web has blocked one of the hose or burner openings slowing the flow of gas. Check all hose fittings and openings for blockage. Use a thin piece of wire. (do this when it is cold not hot so you don't burn yourself). Most burners where they slide into the gas tube that connects to the tank have an adjustment on it with a wire screen. This is to prevent spiders and insect from getting in the tube. Again check this for blockage.
Next, try this: Turn all burner control valves to off. Turn off the tank valve. Disconnect the regulator (this is the connection on the hose at the tank) from the tank. Turn the burner control valves on full. Wait at least a minute. Turn them off. Reconnect the regulator.Turn the cylinder valve on slowly. Try lighting the grill.
If this doesn't work,it is probably the regulator. You could try replacing that.
Not to knock charbroil, but it is an inexpensive brand grill. Might want to consider a new grill before buying the regulator. Just compare the condition of the grill and the price of a regulator with the price of a new grill

QUESTION: I have misplaced my manual...figures.
What grill would you suggest that is reasonably priced?
Thanks
AnswerKaye,
Try sticking to a brand that has a lot of support and parts that can be purchased. Weber is one of those. Most brands sold by the big box stores are no-name brands and hard to find replacement parts. I use weber and so do my cooking friends. Weber silver genesis is a good starter grill which will provide years of usage.
