Question
I am cooking two 5lb boston butt in my slow cooker this is for bbq sandwiches.  How much water do i put in to keep it moist?  How long would i cook them?  what is the tempture it has to be to know when its done?

Answer
Hi Deedee,
I don't use crockpots allot so I gave my girlfriend a call since she does cook Boston butts and makes excellent sandwiches. Its going to take about 20 hours for it to cook on a low crockpot setting. Because of this its much easier if you start the roast the night before you plan to serve. Add about 1/4 cup of water and whatever seasonings you want to use and slow cook it at low heat overnight. You will be able to tell if its done as it pulls away from the  bone. When it is pulling away from the bone it should be done and ready to pull and add bbq sauce to. If you plan to slice it allow it to set outside of the crockpot for about 15 minutes. Although personally I think pulled pork is the best option for crock pot cooking. Safely cooked pork means the pork has reached an internal temperature of 160 degrees during the cooking process.
I hope I answered all of your questions.
Regards,
Misty
