Barbecue/adding briquetts to a gas grill

Question
I just replaced my old Ducane propane grill with a Nexgrill gas grill -(propane converted to natural gas).  It does not heat up as nicely as the old grill and it did not come with any briquettes.   - can I add then?  If so, what kind would you recommend.

Answer
briquettes or flavor grates will be fine.  they don't really do much except collect drippings and then burn off the drippings which cause smoke and flavor.  You could do better by using hardwood chips, soaked in water, wrapped in foil, punch some holes and this will burn slowly and give a nice wood flavor.
