Barenaked Ladies/I Know

Question
What is 'I Know' from BOAPS about? This is one song I've been trying to figure out for years, but I can't come up with anything - it just kind of jumps all over the place.

Answer
Hey, sorry for the delay. I was inundated with work.
Anyway, to answer your question, I Know is really one of the most complicated BNL songs to interpret. Whenever I'm having a difficult time with one, I always try to see if it fits the relationship mold. Most BNL songs are tangential to this. I think this one is about knowing that he likes a girl, the subject, but is unable to pinpoint exactly what it is about her he is attracted to, hence the irony of the title and the seemingly unrelated tangents he gets into. "I know, it's your rebelliousness... no, er, I know its your devotion to religion... no its..." etc.
There are so many ridiculous images conjured up in the song to show how perplexed he really is about the topic.
I hope this gives you a glimpse into the broad topic of the song. Use this thesis to see if you can figure out what all these things have to do with each other and get back to me!! haha!
Hope this helps.

Expertise

I have all of their released music. plus some other stuff. I have been to a BNL concert before and can explain what goes on there. I can tell you some background info about each member of the band and their solo projects. I also enjoy interpreting their lyrics.

Experience

I have been a big fan of BNL since Shoe Box came out in 1997 and have followed them ever since. I know a lot about them from reading biographies and watching their Behind The Music special.
