Question
Hello...  I was wondering if you could have Bariatric Surgery even though you have a thyroid problem. MY weight has sky rocketed to 292 lbs and Im only 5'1".  After many attempts to lose weight I have not lost a lb.  I have gained.  I am now on medication for my thyroid but was wondering if I could still have weight loss surgery.  Please let me know.

Thanks,

Wondering.

Answer
Nory,

In no way does having thyroid disease prevent anyone from qualifying for bariatric surgery.  Thyroid disease is very common in obesity and it is actually often helped by surgery.

Please let me know if you need more information.
