Bariatric Surgery/Gastric Sleeve

Question
My Gastric Sleeve is one year old. I notice that eating meat is a problem and I have an easier time eating carbs. Is this normal

Answer
Ieberta,
For certain, it is normal that meat will fill you up more than carbs.  So usually, when a patient reports that meats are a problem but carbs are OK, they are trying to eat the same amount of meat as (for example) potatoes.

I suggest you try eating very small amounts of meat and see if that works better.  The advantage to you would be better nutrition (protein) and fewer calories.

If meat causes a problem for you, even in small amounts, I recommend you seek follow up with your surgeon.  Some additional testing may be appropriate.

Best of luck,

Dr JP
