Bariatric Surgery/gastric sleeve

Question
My name is Fran, I had gastric sleeve done four weeks ago.  I had the lap band done before that, but due to problems I had to have it removed.  My question is how long will it be before I’m able to eat a half way normal meal.  I have spent 11 days in the hospital since surgery due to dehydration.  I eat so little now I’m getting concern.  I only weigh 130 lbs.  I only eat about 400 calories a day.
Thanks

Answer
Fran,
The fact that you have needed such frequent treatment for dehydration tells me that your situation is not typical of sleeve surgery or any of the bariatric procedures.  It sounds to me like something is not working well in your case.  Since I can't tell what is wrong, I really can't make a prediction about when you will eat a small amount of normal food.  I think you will be best getting this type of estimate from your surgeon, who probably has some test results to refer to.

I wish you the best of luck,
Dr JP
