Question
i would like to know the death rate of gastric bypass patients

Answer
Hi Mary,

It is always good to be thinking about the complications of a serious operation.  In general, studies indicate that the death rate after gastric bypass is one in every 200 to 300 patients.  This is very low for an extremely complex procedure.  The rate is higher in Medicare patients (those over 65), and lower at Centers of Excellence (which are generally more experienced, higher volume centers.

Please let me know if you need more information.
