Bariatric Surgery/gastric bypass

Question
Hi
I had gastric bypass 2 weeks ago (BMI of 35). The day after getting out of the hospital, I was getting my 60 g of protein in. I exercised as directed and ate the clear liquid the full liquid diets as directed. I am now in the soft protein stage. I have no problem eating 2 meals /day and could do 3/day. I find that if I inadvertantly eat too large a portion(10 ounces), I don't get the overly full feeling nor dumping that I would expect with this type of surgery. Ii almost seems as if I didn't have the surgery as there is no physiological sensation that discourages me.  It's like I was before surgery ? What do you think ?

Answer
Dennis,
In my experience, this is not a typical situation.  Most patients find their pouch to be fairly stiff and resistant at this early stage, and would find it physically impossible to eat 10 ounces of soft or semi-solid food.

I expect you have a follow up appointment with your surgeon or surgeon's staff soon.  I would definitely ask them if this is they type of thing they are accustomed to.

Best of luck,
Dr JP
