Question
I had the bypass done in 2006 and over the past two years have gained back 60lbs. Is it possible to have the lap band surgery after having the gastric bypass? Mostly will it help me to continue to loose weight as I am once again 100 lbs over weight.

Answer
Becky,
Weight regain after any bariatric surgery is an unfortunately common problem.  Some surgeons do believe that a Band on a Gastric Bypass is a good idea, and it is surgically possible, but I have found the results to be disappointing.  In other words, it can be done but it usually does not help with much more weight loss.

My best advice is to follow up with your original surgeon and request him/her to check out your surgical anatomy.  If there is anything to be gained from additional surgery then they will likely discuss that with you.  If not, then your surgeon is the most likely person to help get you back on track with non-surgical management of your weight.

Best of luck!
