Bariatric Surgery/Pregnancy three months after lapband

Question
Hi I was wondering what problems might arise from being pregnant so soon after the Lap band surgery? I had my surgery on Nov 17th 2008. I also will require to have my baby via C section. Will this cause more problems?

Answer
Nicole,
I strongly recommend for you to coordinate in person with your bariatric surgeon to answer these questions and to follow you up during your pregnancy.

In the meantime, I would expect that (as long as the Band is not too tight) you and the baby should progress/develop normally.

It is going to be very important for you to take all of your recommended supplements.

Usually a c-section would not interfere with your Band, but you really need to talk to your surgeon about that as well.

Best of luck,
Dr JP
