Question
I have discussed this here before but am adding an update...saw dr...no fissures, etc....convinced the problem is coming from the inside...have appointment with colorectal surgeon in a couple of weeks...

Can you tell me the symptoms of a leaking DS?

Answer
Hi Mary:

I'm so sorry.  I don't know if there are specific symptoms that have to do with a DS vs. a RNY leak, but in general, one looks for tachycardia (elevated heart rate over 120-125 beats per minute) and tachypnea (elevated respiration rate).

I think that if they truly suspected a leak you'd already be in the OR.  Your surgeon would not wait two to three weeks.

What does your DS surgeon say? If s/he is of no help, have you spoken with a different DS surgeon who may have some ideas?

Expertise

I'm very familiar with the four main types of bariatric surgery: Lap-Band/Adjustable Gastric Band, Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y, and Duodenal Switch. I'm familiar with the Mini-Gastric Bypass and Revisions as well. I'm also beginning my seventh year post-op as a successful bariatric patient--so I can answer questions regarding pre-op, post-op honeymoon, and maintenance phases. I'm less familiar with the nuances of plastic surgery following bariatric surgery--but I do know a bit.

Have been an avid researcher of the science of obesity and bariatric surgery for over ten years now. My professional career used to involve medical device research.
