Question
Hi how long does it take to have sugery after referal is done and can I ever eat normal again I think I can onlt have soft food for the first little while anyway let me know as I have an appt on the 20th of this month!!!

Answer
Sandra,
The time from referral to surgery varies tremendously, depending on the patient's medical condition and to a great degree depending on insurance.  I see you are writing from Canada, so I would guess the health system waiting list would be the dominant factor and I confess I know little about the Canadian health system.

After most bariatric surgical procedures patients do eat normal food eventually.  The exact post-operative diet plan depends on which procedure you have done, and the recommendations of your surgeon.  This is a very good question to ask your surgeon and the team when you meet them.

Best wishes,
Dr JP
