Question
I had gastric bypass  surgery 11 years ago. Now I have a on going pain that’s goes on in my sided, stomach, back. After months of this pain they found that I had a really bad infection, gave me cephalexin, but the pain stayed they ran blood all the test and a X ray and decided that pain is caused from being backed up. They said the X Ray showed That I had so much poop there that it was just jammed in there you could get anything more in there. Mind you I go to the bathroom every day. So they told me to drink MAGNESIUM CITRATE. I drank one bottle and with in three minute the pain was so bad I wanted to die. It was like someone throw lighter flute and lite it down me. It only lasts half hour and I was ok, but I still had paid so I tried again. They said it may take two bottles. So it will help for a few days but I can’t keep drinking that stuff. The more I read I’m not sure my Doctor under standers gastric bypass.
Could this be a leak after all this time? I know you can’t give medical advice. But I was hoping for your opining Please any ideas?
Thanks for your time Pam

Answer
If there was a leak, it is my understanding that the consequences would be dire.  If you have any thought that it might be a leak, you should see your doctor IMMEDIATELY.  If you have a blockage, as you explain, and the MAG CIT doesn't create any movement in your bowel, you may have an obstruction.  Again, if you think THAT might be the case, you should see your doctor IMMEDIATELY.  I am equipped to give advice to those who have difficulty LIVING after having had gastric bypass.  But, as I've often said, I am not a doctor and cannot give medical advice.  You should seek medical attention Pam.

I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but it is the only responsible answer that I can give you.

Please let me know how and when the issue is resolved so that I can recount your experience to others when asked.

Hoping that you clear up this problem,
Steve

I can answer any and all questions from the perspective of a weight loss surgery patient. I have had Gastric Bypass Surgery - Roux-en-Y - and can answer questions from the perspective of one who has experienced the pain and suffering of murderous obesity. I have mustered the courage to open myself to the opportunity to live life again! Let me help you get there, too! Weight loss surgery isn't for everyone, but for those who fit some specific criteria, it is a viable option. With the rise in obesity in America, there are suddenly weight loss surgery centers springing up on every street corner, it seems. Choosing to have weight loss surgery is a major decision in your life, and choosing the right center can mean the difference between weight loss success and failure. There are three main types of weight loss surgery being performed today at most all surgical weight loss clinics: the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, which creates a small stomach pouch and bypasses part of the small intestine; the Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, which is similar to the first surgery, but is done laparoscopically, so it reduces the size of the incision, and reduces the pain and recovery time of the surgery, and the LAP-BAND surgery, which is a band fastened around the stomach to create a small pouch. Weight Loss surgery is not for everyone who is obese. In most cases, candidates must be at least 100 pounds overweight. Surgery should be the last resort, rather than a quick-fix. Surgery is a long-term answer to managing your weight, and you need to be aware it will change your life.
