Answer
Hi Jasmine:

Assuming you're having the surgery by the same physician (and even if you're not), usually testing is the same.  It sounds like you've had quite comprehensive pre-op testing, so I'd be surprised if anything else was ordered.

I do suggest that you talk with your surgeon about the results of your chest x-ray, and make sure s/he concurs with the sleeve gastrectomy as a better choice.  Depending on your BMI, it might even make sense to look at the roux-en-y and duodenal switch as well.

In general, though, people seem to be very happy with the VSG--both with its weight loss and quality of life.  You don't have to worry about fills with the VSG as well--which is a nice bonus.

Good luck Jasmine.

Expertise

I'm very familiar with the four main types of bariatric surgery: Lap-Band/Adjustable Gastric Band, Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y, and Duodenal Switch. I'm familiar with the Mini-Gastric Bypass and Revisions as well. I'm also beginning my seventh year post-op as a successful bariatric patient--so I can answer questions regarding pre-op, post-op honeymoon, and maintenance phases. I'm less familiar with the nuances of plastic surgery following bariatric surgery--but I do know a bit.

Have been an avid researcher of the science of obesity and bariatric surgery for over ten years now. My professional career used to involve medical device research.
