Bariatric Surgery/HELP

Question
Dr.  I am a nurse who had a successful DS surgery in 2002.  It has been so exciting to have a new life.  I lost 130.  In the last two years, I have started gaining.  I have gained 50 lbs back and I am terrified.  It feels that I am falling down a hill and every time I try to stop to catch myself I fall harder. As a nurse, I realize that you can't give me comprehensive answer but can you point me to help?  The doctor who did my original surgery is no longer available. (I think he died)

Answer
Debra,
I know this is a really frightening and disheartening situation.  You need to get connected with a bariatric center of excellence.  You can find the Center that is closest to you on the web at:

I can answer medically oriented questions about bariatric surgery including: patient selection, preparation for surgery, differences between types of bariatric surgery, aftercare following bariatric surgery. I can answer detailed questions about gastric bypass, Lap-Band, gastric sleeve, and revision bariatric surgery. I am only somewhat familiar with Biliopancreatic diversion. I am not prepared to answer insurance or other financial questions related to bariatric surgery.

I have been a practicing bariatric surgeon since 1995. About 85% of my current practice consists of bariatric surgery, including all of the above procedures except biliopancreatic diversion.
